Future Planet Fund

Future Planet Fund I (“FPF I”) is built to back companies emerging from the world’s top universities and research ecosystems. “FPF I” leverages a unique series of partnerships and relationships around top institutions to back growth-level companies profitably solving the world's greatest challenges, in climate change, education, health, security and sustainable growth. The fund’s mission is not simply to deliver excellent returns but to create a lasting impact.

Challenge response

Our Challenge Response strategy, created in partnership with Barclays Private Bank, is designed to provide a rapid investment response to immediate global challenges. These thematic baskets benefit from co-investment alongside our other strategies and can access later-stage businesses. Following the success of the first Pandemic Response basket "CR1”, we launched CR2 in 2021.

Blue Ocean Mandate

Launched in partnership with the Constitutional Reserve Fund of Monaco, this strategy focuses on the intersection between climate change, sustainable growth and protection of the world’s oceans, backing companies creating a productive, circular and sustainable Blue Economy.  Investments are made mostly at the Series A stage in companies creating scalable solutions to challenges, including the green energy transition, food security, supply chain decarbonisation and ocean acidification.

NATIONAL

Our national strategy focuses on Pre-Seed to Series A stage companies across the UK. It aims to support innovative businesses emerging from the UK's science and knowledge base, as well as leading universities, leveraging both private and public investment to foster impactful companies aligned with societal and environmental goals.

UKI2S

The UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund is a £102m national seed investment fund that nurtures innovative businesses to leverage private investment and grow jobs. It invests in innovations emerging from the UK’s science and knowledge base. The fund is backed by UK Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Defence (MOD), the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and other public bodies. The UKI2S Fund has attracted more than £700m in private sector investments for its portfolio since 2002.

British Innovation Fund

The British Innovation Fund recognises the world-class science and technology development that is being carried out in many of Britain’s top universities. It invests in and nurtures impactful, early-stage companies, helping them reach their full potential and achieve worldwide recognition and success.

RT Capital Fund

The RT Capital Fund I & II invests in spinouts from the ecosystems of two of the top UK centres of innovation: the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The Fund supports companies that are developing innovative technology in life sciences and advanced materials. The RT Capital Funds currently have £38m of committed capital from professional investors.

REGIONAL

Our regional strategy concentrates on investing in companies with high-growth potential in the West Midlands. It supports SMEs across a variety of sectors, contributing to growth while increasing employment and economic prosperity in the region.

Midlands Engine Investment FunD

The Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) is a collaboration between the UK's British Business Bank and ten Midlands region Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). It provides over £250m of funding from sources including the European Regional Development Fund, the European Investment Bank and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to help businesses across the region start up and scale-up. The £55 million equity portion of the MEIF is managed by Midven, part of Future Planet Capital Group.*

West Midlands Co-Investment Fund

Launched in March 2023, this Fund provides innovative businesses with equity of up to £1m, helping them to expand and grow the region’s industries of the future. The £25m fund aims to support SMEs in the West Midlands across a variety of sectors, including green technology, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and creative and digital.
