Backing businesses solving the world’s greatest challenges

Building on industry best practice and academic research, we have developed a practical approach to assess a company’s impact potential, integrating this into our decision-making across each stage of the investment life cycle.

  • We look for best-in-class companies coming out of the world’s top universities and centres of innovation, combining expected profitability with positive impact. Our database currently contains thousands of startups, spinouts and scaleups from around the globe.

We screen these companies to ensure their core business is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and our five focus areas: health, climate change, education, security, and sustainable growth.

  • We seek to invest in innovative and impactful companies, to create value for people and the planet. To identify billion-dollar opportunities that can solve the world’s largest problems and deliver outsized financial, social and environmental returns, we have developed a comprehensive impact framework.

As part of our impact investment lifecycle we dive deep into the potential a company has to make a real difference as it grows, a process we developed in collaboration with PwC. Our proprietary scoring system and novel Impact Value Gap analysis evaluates the opportunity a business has to positively impact society and the environment.

  • We engage with founders and management teams to support their success and drive forward our ambition for impact. This includes providing tools for measurement and benchmarking, and building impact metrics and performance indicators into our reporting and evaluation.

When we realise the value in our investments, we seek to ensure continued positive impact, prioritising exit opportunities that support a company’s potential to make a meaningful difference.
