Peter Mitchell is a Director at Future Planet, who leads on Data Science and Technology within the firm. With a keen eye for innovation, Peter has developed a novel data system that analyzes over 500,000 data points to identify companies in the pipeline that are most likely to build profitable solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. He also serves on the Blue Ocean Mandate's investment committee and oversees relations with Future Planet’s key venture managers worldwide.
Peter’s background is in academia, where he worked on large scale statistical research to help solve complex issues. He worked on projects for the UK Cabinet Office, the OECD and the Department for Education, where he used advanced modelling to offer guidance on topics such as the achievement gaps between students in English schools and the most effective approaches to teaching mathematics. He maintains strong ties with the academic community and teaches termly master classes at the University of Oxford on how to code and conduct quantitative analysis for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.
Peter has also worked with innovative firms within the EdTech space. These include Emerge Education, a prominent Edtech fund in the UK, where he wrote code to identify promising early-stage companies, and TeacherTapp, a venture backed start-up that remains the leading source of data on teacher experience in England.
He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, which he completed on a full scholarship from the prestigious All Souls College, and a master’s degree from Harvard University.
